Expressive Arts

"Expressive arts therapy uses various arts—movement, drawing, painting, sculpture, music, writing, sound, and improvisation—in a supportive environment to facilitate growth and healing. It is a process of discovering ourselves through any form of art that comes from an emotional depth. It's not creating a "pretty" image. It's not a stage-ready dance. It's not a perfectly written and rewritten poem." Natalie Rogers

Mindful meditation/breathing helps us center and connect with our creativity.

Dance/movement helps us reconnect mind and body. The use of movement helps to integrate the emotional and the physical. Cognitive and social aspects of an individual. Allowing emotional and mental processing. It helps us connect with ourselves, others, and the environment.

The visual arts/creative process (drawing, painting, sculpture) promote non-verbal expression. It encourages creativity and allows us to make discoveries about ourselves, supporting self-esteem, personal growth, and well-being. Creative writing/poetry integrates the creative process. It provides averbal communication for the experience. It provides a safe place to authentically express thoughts and feelings.

Music/sound/vocalization is a sensory experience that provides a non-verbal response to emotions. You can provide participants with the opportunity to share their world.

Deep listening/mindfulness/testimony is sharing experiences and listening to one another in a respectful, non-judgmental way that builds community and opportunities for acceptance.

HEART Centered mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that supports growth and connection with self, others, and the environment by addressing the need for separation from one another and nature using eco-art activities and expressive arts.
